Creating a Full Application with AI Assistance in 6 Hours: My Experience with AI Coding

I spent several months learning more about AI. Recently, I found myself in need of an app to create tasks and rewards for my daughters. I discovered an Android app that was almost perfect for my needs, but it required payment for some features. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to create my own application from scratch.

And so, “Kids Tasks” was born.

It took me around 6 hours in total to design and create my first prompts. I also put together the scaffolding and files in Visual Studio Code with the help of Copilot. I have to say that I really enjoyed this experience, especially with Claude 3.5 available through Copilot. Every feature added was a challenge, refining more and more what I was looking for in the application. Adding the capability to use themes was new to me. Incorporating animations was also unfamiliar specially using React and Tailwind. My front-end experience has primarily been with ASP.NET and, for the past 8 years, Angular.

From the 6 hours, I can say it took me about 2 hours for the deployment effort. I was not familiar with GitHub Pages. For some reason, it was not as easy as the AI described to deploy it to GitHub Pages, but in the end, it was deployed, and the code is available on GitHub [https://github.com/arhuertah/kids-tasks](https://github.com/arhuertah/kids-tasks). On Sunday morning, I showed the application to my daughters, and they loved it. They started suggesting some modifications. They began playing with it on the tablet. They took advantage of its responsive design. The fully functional local storage allowed for saving progress. This meant that, for now, no backend or database was necessary!

Once I started with this journey, many ideas came to me. I’m planning to post more applications and technologies. I want to use AI to generate applications. This includes the VIBE coding that I have pending in my bucket as well.
